It has been a crazy week! The Patriots were victorious for their SIXTH Super Bowl win which made for some tired students and staff Monday morning!! And hmmm attendance was light on Tuesday...#paradeanyone?

 

 

Supreme Court Calling!

Sophomore Civic classes are working on their Supreme Court Case Project. Students are looking at a specific case, the amendment connected to it, the ruling, the perspective and how it applies to today. It is great to see students so invested in their case and make the connection to the impact it has on present day!

Even through the arctic blast, students are buckling down and working hard! It has been an active week in the library with freshmen English classes beginning their research writing paper. We have been learning about how to effectively evaluate sources and the merits of using an academic database for research.

The Library...it's not just for studying...

 

While the library is always a place to study, read and collaborate, it is also a place where students can relax and unwind during the day especially during the doldrums of winter! Students have been very active at the puzzle table this week and their enthusiasm is contagious!

We have just completed our final full week before mid-terms. Students have bee finishing up projects and papers, studying hard and prepping for their assessments. We wish all of our students the best of luck!

Working Together

Preschool Teacher Ms. Murphy had her students learn all about the art that many African countries have in common. They focused on weaving and pottery and students created these wonderful artifacts.We were able to work together, providing books from the library on the many different countries in Africa. It proved to be a great collaboration between the library and preschool and we look forward to their next unit on Japan!

Welcome Back!

 And We're Back!

Welcome Back staff and students! A nice vacation for all and we are now full steam ahead preparing for mid-terms and 2019! Although a short week it has been a busy one! Mr. Voldman's Holocaust and Genocide classes have been researching their papers on a specific topic related to the Holocaust. Mr. Wall's senior English classes are wrapping up their social action paper by developing their action plan and preparing to "present" it to a specific body. With only one week until mid-terms, students have been focused on making sure they are fully prepared!

We have made it! It has been a long but very productive month! We have had many classes, lots of studying, preschool reading, and visits from alumni! It is a super fun time of the year and we are so grateful for all the love, support and interest in the library!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Winter....

Preschool Popping With Penguins

There is a chill in the air! To prepare for the magic of winter we have created a winter wonderland for the preschoolers with our penguin display.  The littles were so excited to pick out their favorite penguins and loved the penguin books. While we are not completely ready for the onslaught of the cold temperature and snow, we are embracing it in the library!

Keeping Research Real

 Research is Rolling In

It has been so busy in the library with two major research projects under way. Both of these projects value the process of research and have a key focus on how to locate and analyze quality sources.

Junior: Annotated Bibliography Biology Project

Juniors in biology are beginning their year long research paper by choosing any topic of interest that connects to biology. The opening act of this paper is to create an annotated bibliography of sources they may or may not use for the end paper. It is amazing to see all the creative ideas the students research.

 

 

 

 

 

Senior: Social Action Research Plan Project

Seniors are embarking on their Social Action Research Plan. Again with a focus on the process not just the end result, students are asked to research a cause that has meaning to them. With that focus they create an action plan that a young adult could conceivably carry out. In the library our focus is to have seniors use the advanced feature of our database,s and based on their findings develop a plan. We focus on making sure they do not choose a plan and make the research fit their plan, but rather have a question and find sources they can then develop into their own idea and implement.

First Term Under Our Belts

 First Term Completed

The school year is well under way with our first term officially in the books! This isn't stopping our students from continuing to study and push themselves in school, on the field and in activities! We are looking forward to second term with a number of projects coming our way in the library. Seniors will begin their "Social Action Research Project" and some of our juniors will tackle their "Annotated Bibliography Research Paper." We look forward to working with these classes!

Always one of our favorite days of the school year, Senior Dress Up-Day for Halloween was in full force despite the "conflict" with the Red Sox victory parade! We love to see the creativity and excitement of this long standing tradition that students wait to be part of their senior year!

Just Another Week!

Another busy week in the library! Global Awareness classes continue to work on their first research assignment, and students are studying for tests and collaborating on projects! Preschoolers have been so enthusiastic during story time and Sassy has had so many visitors! We love to see the energy in the library!

I just finished reading And Then She Was Gone / Lisa Jewell. It was a haunting disturbing read that sits with you long after the story ends. Like thrillers, come to  the library and check it out!!

Just Another Week in the Library!

Our first full week of school is under our belts and a busy one it was for all! We had freshmen Global Awareness classes working on their "Check the Tag" project and juniors immersed in their first independent reading project in Ms. Rogers English class!  The preschool train made its 2018-19 debut and the library is decked out in everything Halloween! Sassy had so many visitors and we topped it off with a successful Open House Thursday night. It has been a productive and exciting week in the library!
